Cod conference

» 2005

Given that cod fisheries remain depleted and global human demand for 'whitefish' continues to increase, it is of particular importance to evaluate the feasibility of cod farming in Nordic countries.

Cod culture was initiated during the 1980s primarily for the purpose of stock enhancement/restoration. Now Nordic countries are more interested in farming of cod.  During recent years, many Nordic countries have launched large research and development programs.  Hatchery production is continuously rising and a production volume of 100.000 tones of cod is forecasted after few years. This conference aims to give an overview of cod farming activities and research in Nordic countries and define future challenges.

This is the third Nordic Cod Farming Conference. The first conference was held in February 2003 in Bergen, second in Reykjavík, September 2005.
