Given that cod fisheries remain limited and global human demand for 'whitefish' continues to rise, it is of particular importance to evaluate feasibility of cod farming in Nordic countries. Cod culture was initiated during the 1980s primarily for the purpose of stock enhancement/restoration. Now Nordic countries are more interested in farming of cod. During recent years, Nordic countries have launched large research and development programmes. The hatchery production is continuously rising and a production volume of 100.000 tones of cod is forecast within a decade. This conference aims at giving an overview of cod farming activities and research in the Nordic countries and define future challenges. This is the second Nordic Cod Farming Conference. The first conference was held in February 2003 in Bergen. We hope to see you all – farmers, academics, suppliers, buyers, distributors and managers in September 2005.
